Mission Possible Information

Mission Possible

Mission Possible consists of over 30 different team building and problem solving activities which the students tackle in groups. Moving between the tasks round robin style, teams need to communicate and work together to plan how they are going to complete the challenges. Motivation and team spirit are essential on a Mission Possible day, with students encouraged to support and encourage each other, and reflect on their team work after each activity.

Activity Area

WiseUp Team Building can run events at any privately owned site. This includes school/college/university grounds, sports facilities, camp sites etc. We are not able to run events in public spaces such as parks/rec grounds.

For a day of Mission Possible, the ideal space is usually a school field, astro turf, MUGA or other outside area roughly the size of a football pitch. For larger groups, more space will be required while groups with less students can be accommodated on a space the size of a netball court.

We are also able to run indoors in sports halls, gyms and other large, clear spaces.

Your WiseUp Team

On the day of your event, a team of WiseUp instructors, led by one of our experienced Lead Instructors, will arrive around an hour before the scheduled start time. They will bring with them everything needed for your activity day in one of our WiseUp vans.

The team will set up the activities in your designated activity area and await the arrival of your students to let them know where to go.

While students are on the activities, our staff will circulate between the groups providing input and support to the students and group supervisors, as well as providing clues after each completed challenge. They will also run icebreakers and other group challenges throughout the day.

After the day has concluded and the students have left the activity area, your WiseUp team will pack away all of our equipment, leaving the space exactly as we found it before departing.

How would the day run?

The day would start with a short presentation to the students about their mission for the day and how important it will be for them to work together in their teams in order to complete this. Whilst the students are having their presentation, school staff will be given a separate briefing by a member of the WiseUp team, explaining their role in the day and answering any queries. The students will be split into teams of 10-12 (pre-arranged and organised by your school event lead teacher) and each team will be allocated a teacher/ta or adult whose role will be to supervise the students throughout the day. They will also judge whether the team successfully completed the challenge and whether they deserve any bonus points.

The WiseUp staff will not be allocated to a specific group but will circulate between all teams giving input and guidance, and helping the students to build on their teamwork. They will also be available to distribute clues to teams who complete challenges.

The teams will try and complete as many challenges as possible throughout the day and after each task the whole team will find a WiseUp instructor to be given clues. The number of clues they will receive depends on whether the team completed the task and any additional areas which they will have been asked to focus on, such as being kind to one another for example. One person will then return the Challenge Card to the board at Mission Possible HQ and pick the next activity before returning to their team. As a group, the students will need to go and find each challenge, although if they are struggling, then the WiseUp instructors will be able to tell them the general direction of where to find it.

The day will be rounded up with a debrief to all students in which the WiseUp team will feedback about how the groups got on throughout the day and revealing if they have successfully completed their mission.

Staffing

For our regular Mission Possible days, we  ask that each team of 10-12 students is allocated a teacher, ta or adult helper to supervise the team for the duration of the day. This is due to our activities being designed for and risk assessed based on a maximum of 12 students per group. Our insurance cover is based off our risk assessments so it is important that these ratios are kept.

We will provide a member of WiseUp staff for every 30 students you have booked for and our staff will not be assigned to a specific team but will circulate between all of the groups providing input and support to the students and group supervisors alongside providing clues.

We understand that staffing within primary schools can often be tight and for this reason, a lot of schools we visit ask parent volunteers or any other school verified adult such as office staff or members of the maintenance team to take on the supervisory role of the younger student teams.
