Coronavirus: The Effect on Young People’s Mental Health

COVID-19 has rather taken over everything lately. School closures, work furloughs and lockdowns on a local and nation level – Coronavirus has affected every part of our lives. With the recent easing of government restrictions, it may seem like we are starting to get some semblance of normality back. We can now go have a haircut (thank goodness!) and shop for new clothes. Yet whilst it may look like life is returning to normal, the impact the virus has had on our mental health is becoming evident. Children and young people’s mental health and social skills have been especially affected, with the school closures curtailing most of their day to day social activities with others.

As a company that works with this age range every day, WiseUp Team Building knows how important these seemingly casual interactions between peers can be. Our Business Development Manager, Jess, has been keeping up to date with the on-going research with regard to how children and young people have been dealing with the pandemic. And the results are rather worrying. We thought we would let her tell you in her own words what she has found out lately, and how we thing outdoor education could be a vital tool in helping our young people when schools re-open in September.
