Transition Days for Berkshire Schools

Transition & Induction Days

Helping Students Build Confidence From Day One

Moving into a new school environment is one of the most significant moments in a student’s educational journey.

Whether transitioning from Primary to Secondary School or entering Sixth Form, students often face uncertainty, anxiety and unfamiliar social environments.

WiseUp Transition & Induction programmes are designed to help students quickly build confidence, form friendships and develop a strong sense of belonging from the very start.

Through structured team challenges and shared experiences, students integrate faster and begin their new school journey positively.

Why Transition Support Matters

Schools consistently recognise that successful transition impacts:

  • student wellbeing

  • engagement and attendance

  • confidence in learning environments

  • peer relationships

  • behaviour and school culture

Providing early opportunities for students to collaborate, communicate and connect significantly improves how quickly cohorts settle into their new environment.

WiseUp programmes provide a structured and engaging way to support this process.

Why Transition Support Is More Important Than Ever

In recent years, many secondary schools and sixth forms have seen a significant increase in the number of feeder schools contributing to each new intake.

It is now increasingly common for Year 7 or Sixth Form cohorts to arrive from dozens of different primary or secondary feeder schools, with some schools welcoming students from more than 30–40 separate settings.

As a result, many students begin the academic year knowing very few, if any, of their peers.

Schools are recognising that structured transition experiences play a vital role in helping students meet new classmates, break down social barriers and develop confidence before academic expectations increase.

Transition activity days allow students to:

  • form friendships across feeder groups

  • build confidence in unfamiliar environments

  • establish positive cohort identity

  • reduce anxiety linked to change

  • begin the school year feeling settled and supported

Increasingly, schools are allocating dedicated transition budgets to ensure students start their new journey with strong social foundations in place.

WiseUp programmes are specifically designed to support this modern transition landscape, helping schools create confident, connected cohorts from day one.

Example Transition Day Programme Options

WiseUp Transition Days are flexible depending on staffing availability, cohort size and preferred level of facilitation.

For secondary school and sixth form transition programmes, schools typically choose between two proven delivery models.

Option 1: We Run It Together

The Hub Challenge

Our most popular transition option, The Hub Challenge, provides a highly interactive carousel of team-building and problem-solving activities designed to help students quickly build friendships and confidence.

Students work in teams of approximately 12 and rotate through a wide variety of engaging challenges throughout the day.

Activities focus on:

  • communication and collaboration

  • teamwork and planning

  • leadership opportunities

  • problem solving

  • confidence building

School staff accompany each group while WiseUp instructors circulate, facilitate challenges and maintain energy and engagement across the event.

This shared delivery approach works particularly well for large cohorts and allows staff to actively engage with students as relationships begin to form.

Option 2: We Run It For You

Time Attack

For schools requiring minimal staffing involvement, Time Attack offers a fully facilitated transition experience led entirely by the WiseUp team.

Our instructors manage and lead each student group throughout the day, meaning fewer school staff are required to supervise activities.

This option is ideal where:

  • staffing availability is limited

  • large intakes require structured management

  • schools prefer fully guided delivery

Students still experience the same high levels of teamwork, communication and engagement, with WiseUp staff leading challenges from start to finish.

Alternative Options For Older Students

For older year groups or sixth form cohorts, programmes such as our Apprentice Challenge Day can also be incorporated where appropriate.

However, most schools choose team-building focused transition programmes, as these provide the strongest opportunities for students to communicate, collaborate and establish friendships early in their new environment.

Learning Through Challenge And Fun

While transition programmes are carefully designed around personal development outcomes, enjoyment remains a key part of the WiseUp experience.

Students learn best when fully engaged, and our activities combine structured learning with energy, challenge and fun throughout the day.

Laughter, shared achievement and positive experiences help students relax, connect naturally and begin their new school journey with confidence.
