Why Spring is the Perfect Time to Get Kids Outdoors

As April brings longer days, blooming landscapes and the fresh energy of spring, it’s the ideal season to encourage children and teens to step outside. With Earth Day on 22 April and Easter holidays providing a natural break, now is the moment to prioritise outdoor time. Especially when a shocking statistic reveals that 75% of young people spend less time outdoors each day than prison inmates (often under one hour).
This lack of fresh air stems from screen addiction, safety concerns and logistical barriers, leading to over-reliance on instant gratification from games and social media. The result? Reduced resilience, poorer communication skills and missed opportunities for real-world achievement.
At WiseUp Team Building, we’re on a mission to change that. Founded in 2011 by Rich (a former GB youth sailing competitor who thrived outdoors rather than in traditional classrooms) and Alex (who left law school for her passion in outdoor education), we bring experiential team building directly to schools nationwide. Eliminating travel costs, coach limits and paperwork hassles.
Starting with one van of equipment, we’ve grown to serve over 400 schools annually with 60 instructors and eight fully equipped vans. Even top institutions, including Brighton College, trust us for their events.

The WiseUp Difference

More Than Just Fun. Deliberate Soft Skills Development.
We don’t just run activities; we structure every day to teach essential soft skills:
Start with intention: Introduce key skills to ensure the purpose of the day is met.
Hands-on challenges: Students learn by doing in a supportive, carefree environment.
End with reflection: Guided reviews help participants recognise growth and apply skills to school, exams and life.
This approach gives students a healthy “dopamine hit” from effort and achievement, countering instant gratification habits.
Spring-perfect activities include:
The Assault Course – Physical team challenges building trust and clear communication.
The Bushcraft Challenge – Safe shelter-building and navigation for independence.
Our events suit groups up to 1,000, with indoor options for April showers. Fully inclusive for SEN and all learning styles. Accessible for Every School and Budget.
