At WiseUp Team Building, September is about helping young people settle in, feel confident and form meaningful connections. Our approach didn’t start in a boardroom or a classroom. It began outdoors, on the water at an outdoor activity centre, where two shared passions shaped what WiseUp is today.

The Beginning of WiseUp
WiseUp was founded by Rich and Alex, who met while working at an outdoor activity centre – both drawn to outdoor education for deeply personal reasons.
Rich’s Story
Rich always struggled in traditional classroom settings but thrived outdoors. A former GB youth sailing competitor, he found confidence, focus and purpose on the water. During sixth form, he also supported young SEN students, reinforcing his passion for helping others grow through experience rather than instruction.
Alex’s Story
Alex took a different path, dropping out of law school after realising it wasn’t the right fit. Feeling lost at university, she discovered her true passion in outdoor education, where learning felt natural, inclusive and confidence-building.
Together, they shared a simple question:
What if more young people could learn this way?
From Outdoor Centres to School Doorsteps
While working with schools, Rich and Alex kept hearing the same feedback:
* Outdoor trips were valuable but expensive
* Travel time reduced learning time
* Paperwork and logistics were a barrier
The solution was clear. Instead of taking students away from school, bring the experience to them.
WiseUp Team Building was born with a van full of equipment, £300 from a small Kent Entrepreneurs grant, and a commitment to reinvest everything back into the business. Within six months, both founders went all in.
Today, WiseUp works with over 400 schools a year, supported by:
* A team of 60 trained staff
* Eight fully equipped vans
* Nationwide delivery across the UK
Some of the UK’s top performing schools, including Sunday Times Top 10 schools and School of the Decade winners, trust WiseUp year after year. In fact, many schools have partnered with WiseUp for over 14 years.
