Digital Detox Programme

Helping Students Reconnect, Refocus and Thrive Beyond Screens

Schools across the UK are increasingly facing challenges linked to rising screen time, social media use and digital dependency among young people.

While technology remains an essential part of modern education, many school leaders are seeking practical ways to help students develop healthier relationships with devices, improving wellbeing, focus and social connection without relying solely on restrictive policies.

WiseUp’s Digital Detox programmes provide students with structured opportunities to step away from screens and rediscover confidence, communication and resilience through shared real-world experiences.

A Practical Alternative To Simply Banning Phones

WiseUp has been invited by the Department for Education to participate in national roundtable discussions exploring practical alternatives to blanket mobile phone bans in schools.

These discussions focus on how schools can support students through behavioural change,  helping young people understand how to manage technology responsibly rather than simply removing access.

Following initial participation, WiseUp has been invited to contribute to further roundtable discussions as part of ongoing national conversations around student digital wellbeing.

Our approach centres on education, balance and skill development rather than restriction alone.

Developing National Digital Wellbeing Resources

As part of this work, WiseUp has developed a Digital Detox Journal for Students, designed to help young people:

  • Reflect on screen habits
  • Understand digital balance
  • Build offline confidence
  • Improve focus and wellbeing
  • Develop healthier routines

Schools can download and print this journal completely free of charge as part of their wellbeing or personal development provision.

Supporting Wider Health & Wellbeing Initiatives

WiseUp is currently working alongside medical professionals to support the development of guidance around young people experiencing problematic phone use and digital dependency.

This work includes contributing insight toward wellbeing resources being explored for wider healthcare and educational use, including collaboration supporting guidance initiatives connected to NHS wellbeing pathways.

These partnerships reflect WiseUp’s growing role in supporting practical, preventative approaches to digital wellbeing for young people.

Learning Through Experience, not Lectures

WiseUp Digital Detox programmes are not anti-technology.

Instead, students experience first-hand how confidence, creativity and connection develop when learning takes place through collaboration, challenge and outdoor activity.

By temporarily removing reliance on screens, students naturally engage in communication, teamwork and problem solving.
