Job Role Summary

The role of Senior Instructor is fun, rewarding and not boring! WiseUp Senior Instructors work alongside our Lead Instructors in the delivery of safe, high quality, educational and fun activity experiences for customers at schools, universities and colleges all across the UK. We offer full training in our wide range of activities, including team building, bushcraft, our outdoor assault course, giant catapult building and more. Every day with WiseUp is different, as our instructors could be running a bushcraft event with 30 primary school students one day, to a team building event with 500 secondary school pupils the next. Our Senior Instructors are a vital part of the team, acting as the go-between for our Lead Instructors and Activity Instructors, often taking a leadership role while out on a school visit or at base. This role requires previous experience within the WiseUp team.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Running the set up and pack down of activity equipment at schools.
• Running school supervisor briefings.
• Assist Lead Instructor with group management – getting groups quiet, sat down etc.
• Observing and motivating student teams on certain activities, leading groups on others.
• Observing and motivating WiseUp instructors and guiding new staff members on the day to day running of our activities.
• Facilitating quality group de-briefs.
• Maintaining activity equipment to a high standard of cleanliness.
• Run ice breaker/re-energizer/All In activities.
• Loading, unloading and re-stocking activity equipment at WiseUp Base.
• Be able to follow company processes and procedures, and coach staff members on what these are, and why they are important.
• Work flexibly and undertake any other duties reasonably required by WiseUp Team Building management.

Personal Qualities

• Senior Instructors need to be at least 18 years old.
• A desire to work with young people.
• Be willing to work under WiseUp Lead Instructors.
• Be able to lead a team when the Lead Instructor is otherwise engaged.
• Have an enthusiastic and positive mindset!
• Demonstrate effective organizational and time management skills.
• An ability to adapt to changing situations.
• Demonstrate flexibility, problem solving ability and a strong work ethic.
• A willingness to learn and positively embrace industry and company policies and procedures.
• Previous experience at WiseUp Team Building is a must.

 

A Senior Instructor must be able to show evidence of;

• Good time keeping.
• Thorough knowledge of activities and equipment.
• Leading our “All In/Ice Breaker/Re-energizer” activities.
• Leading a School Supervisor brief.
• Coaching new staff members in their roles.
• Leading a team if/when required.
• A willingness to develop your own skills and knowledge within the company, as development points are raised to you.

 

Additional Information

This role requires travelling to venues across the U.K and may involve overnight stays at hotels provided by the company. Some instructors travel in the WiseUp vans while others make their own way to the school and meet the rest of the team there – please feel free to chat to us about what would work for you! This role does not involve weekend work, although on rare occasions you may be asked to leave on a Sunday night if you are doing overnight work. Various start and finish dates throughout the season.
